Simply put, breast ultrasound is a quick and painless imaging modality to look at the internal structure of the breast.
While it is well documented that individuals who regularly exercise may decrease their risk of breast cancer development, sadly breast symptoms can develop at any time; despite the fact that some breast changes may be due to other medical conditions, it is important to get any breast symptoms checked out.
Changes such as:
should always be investigated.
Ultrasound is recommended for women under the age of 40 years presenting with symptoms. It is quick, painless, and requires no special preparations. Over the age of 40 years mammogram is recommended, and this may also be used in conjunction with a breast ultrasound.
It may be reassuring for you to know that THE MAJORITY OF BREAST LUMPS ARE NOT CANCERS
(many turn out to be cysts or harmless breast changes). In addition, if breast cancers are found, the majority can be treated successfully.
Men can also use this service to have any breast lumps examined.
